No Friday Comic

Hey Everyone,

No Comic update this Fridy. I have a long writing meeting coming up for our new project and a double shift at work followed by the office holiday party! So sadly I will be pushing back the Friday update. Sorry. but I promise it will be worth the wait!

If you havent seen the Wed update yet take a look! Finals weeks suuuuuch fun!

In other news our own Aaron Ramsey and CJ Mulcahy have been working on some video project that I will be posting up here soon! I really love the work they did and cant wait to show everyone!our Sound and Photo boys really showed some great video chops! glad I could help them and hope you all enjoy when its posted!

What Goes on

So, I pulled an all nighter to get the comic up before the afternoon; it was rewarding, but has made me a very tired guy today! I have more work on the next one, so the second half of the story will be ready for its Friday debut. I am really happy the comic has been running smoothly and on schedule! Keep an eye on it for more updates each week!

In other news I am starting work on some sub-pages for a few of our projects! I really am stoked about getting a theme together for our shows, if you haven’t seen Gossamer or Nautilus take a look in the video section. and Very soon take a look at the new pages we will have for them! YAY!!!

Working more on a new series idea thats coming up and found a lot of old projects that need a little polish and would be great for the web! so much more coming!

The Goings On

With so much going on, it’s been a mad house here. First things first, got my main system back up and running; just a few more add-ons and it will be ready to rock out some serious editing for us! And, not a moment too soon, as we are staging to finish off the Gossamer series and post more Nautilus! YAY!

So the comics have been rocking out the 2 updates a week for the past few weeks and I have to say that it’s been great getting them up more and more! And, the response has been AMAZING! SO, I will be keeping up the double updates from now on, but the Wednesday, Friday schedule of days may change. I’ll be keeping you posted!

Hope you are all loving the new comic! I loved getting to play more with shading! Much more to come! Have a great week!

I can’t even figure out where to begin! Last night I saw history made, I felt a ray of hope in what I thought was a merky and unavodable fog of fearmongering and depression; I see a light at the end of the tunnel and it feels good! It feels so good to think that change can happen, that people can make a difference! I was on pins and needles all night, trapped at work watching CNN.com for all the news - watching the numbers go up and down and up and down. It was CRAZY!

The race continued as time marched on and I started to panic: what would be the future of our country? What world would I wake up in tomorrow? And then 11:15pm happened, and Barack Obama was announced as the next President of the United States of America! Then, collectively from all across my city, cheers, yells, and a sense of collective hope could be heard and felt.

I was able to see John McCain’s speech while at work, and I have to say, that was the most sincere and honest concession speech I have ever heard - calling for his supporters to embrace his opponent and reminding them that we are all ONE country, ONE nation, and that together we are strong; it gave me chills and it made me remember why of all the republicans I saw, I liked him the most. Though I differed with him on several issues, though I felt mistakes were made, I congratulate him on a great run and I look forward to hearing more and more from him! After that, it was home through the screaming masses to hear Obama’s speech replayed, and I have to say that I have never been so moved - so excited for a new leader!

The most refreshing part for me was the honesty, stating plainly to the American people that the job is big and will be hard and that we may disagree but we are bringing this country to a better place! It was amazing! I have never before been moved to tears by a speech; it was so refreshing to be talked to like an adult, to be reminded that we are a nation of innovators, intellectuals, and freethinkers! And, that together, we make this country great! Needless to say, I am happy with how things worked out and I am hopeful! I cant wait to see what the next four years bring!

Film Festival this Weekend!

Hey, Everyone! If you are in the Boston area this weekend, Dogtoon Media has two entries in the Nor’Easter Film Festival playing at the Coolidge Corner Theater from 12pm to 4pm on both Saturday and Sunday. Come support Dogtoon Media, as both “Family Treasure” and “Code Monkey” will go up for judging. Dogtoon’s own Douglas Cowell will be on the film maker panel as well, incase you have any questions. I really hope that you can make it down to show your support, and I’m sure there will be festivities to follow!

Code Monkey Up

This past weekend, our new video “Code Monkey,” and all the feedback thus far, has been great! Thank you all so much for the support! It was so much fun making this video; both Steph and I had a blast! A huge thank you to everyone involved! I am hoping to get a higher quality version up soon.

Hey Guys,

So the next instalment of Nautilus goes up tonight! I am really glad for the positive feedback from our first ever web series! Also, the Comic is updated this Wed, and that marks the 3rd week that I was able to keep to my deadline! Woot! This keeps up and we may be able to rock out multi-updates per week! Here’s hoping!

In other news, Steph and I finally got a day to review and finish off Code Monkey, the music video we shot several months ago. I am so happy with how it turned out! I can’t wait to get it up on the site later this week

Nautilus Part 3 up this Friday

Hey Everyone! I just cant stop adding new news!…. its what I do. So, this Friday, not only will we have a new comic up (if all goes well), BUT this Friday the next installment of Nautilus Awakening will be posted as well!

Nautilus has been getting some great feedback and I am so happy to hear how much you guys are enjoying it! Keep the feedback rolling in, and by all means comment; Nautilus was indeed a labor of love taking an entire summer to shoot every live actor you see. We spent a lot of time out of the sunshine in our studio in Reading, giving Nautilus its charm; not to mention all the fine folks behind the scenes. I want to give a big thanks to everyone involved!

New Comic Shirt Design

I wanted to post up the new comic shirt designs; this one shows Backslash at his best, gaming of course. I am really happy with how this looks, let me know what you guys think! I am still hoping to get the comic up to a once a week posting. It’s looking pretty good thus far, so keep checking back! Oh, and a special thanks to everyone whom told their friends to check us out! Nautilus Lives!

So I decided to post the first ever web series Dogtoon Media had done up on our site and youtube. Just to see how it played and to finally show off our early work. I have to say I am amazed at how well it is being received. Nautilus represents a fantastic labor of love from everyone who helped out with it. And I feel a little write up on how it all went down is helpful, forgive if you were involved and I leave something out. So a long time ago, a once upon a time kind of long time ago, I had the idea to take some of the books and stories I was writing and turn it into a new web series. I had several books and a few short stories following an android named Decon; this android worked in space, as most androids tend to do, and not just space, but space in the future! So I took his story, and made a new branch of it about him and some war buddies making an incredible discovery.

So to make this happen, I worked out a deal with RCTV, that’s Reading Community Television for those keeping score, and got the full run of their lesser used studio and a selection of Cameras, then I shopped around for the perfect cast and found perfection itself in Christine Donlon, Dana Giampaolo, Greg Kurkijin, Carly Haven, Jackie Bramhall and Gina Cozzolino . From there on, we worked at shooting the 3 episodes. It was an amazing summer filming and I had a blast every second of it! Then came the grueling animating and editing, and rendering and sound.. It took 3 years to complete and now it’s finally up. I was so reluctant to post it, thinking I had grown soooo much and it would be a bad representation of my writing, but seems it’s getting some good play and I couldn’t be happier! So I hope you all will take a peak!

Code Monkey Filmed

This past weekend Dogtoon Media filmed its newest music video “Code Monkey” based on the song by singer/songwriter Jonathan Coulton. Our video directed by Steph McCabe and Produced by Douglas Cowell, Code Monkey is a unique look at the life of a twenty something programmer on a typical day of work. Dogtoon Media will be holding a second round of auditions for our new music video of the Jonathan Coulton song “Code Monkey” Please bring a resume and a head shot if you have them. Pictures will be taken.

48 Hour Film Project 2008

We at Dogtoon Media are proud to announce our enrollment in The 48 Hour Film Project!

The 48 Hour Film Project is a grueling, sleepless weekend filled with film-making and caffeine. The project began in May 2001 and has become a phenomenon ever since. For two days, teams of film-makers from every major city in the country participate by creating a short film. On Friday, April 4, each team draws a genre from a hat. Each city is given one line of dialog, one prop, and one character that must be in each film. All films must be completed by Sunday, April 6.

Dogtoon has already assembled a great team this year, and we’re excited for the challenge and the opportunity to show what we’ve got. Look for us at the winner’s circle!
