This weekend I spent in New York City, lots of reasons took me to the Big Apple, but I have to say one of the BIG things I wanted to do was to go see the Tim Burton exhibit at the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art). Tim Burton is a huge influence of mine, and I was really excited to get to see it with my cousin Kathrine since she was the person who first introduced me to the master of the comedic macabre. It was also really fun for me to get to go through the MOMA with Kathrine since she is an artist of no small note in NYC herself, and I so enjoy getting to talk about artistic things with her!

So, more on the idea for the comic, first off I LOVED this exhibit! it was so amazing to see Tim’s ideas, sketches, stories and thought process. It was an inspiration! As such I took to sketching A LOT, in the sketch books I brought, in the idea journal I had with me, on scraps of paper I found and on napkins at the various amazing places I ate at while in the city! On one napkin I sketched this comic in a basic form. I thought it was pretty fun seeing clear “Burtonites” waiting in line with Nightmare Before Christmas shirts and bags. I really enjoyed the variety of people attending the exhibit. So from ink on a napkin at a New York diner to the final product. Ink on paper with no color. I really do want to bring back the color and the story script and as if right now I am working on using one update for full multi frame story work in full color, and the other day as a ink tossie day.

I will also be posting up a few pictures from my trip.
